IPTV on a Samsung smart TV

Samsung TVs run Tizen, not Android, so the app choice is narrower, but the set-up is quick.

Samsung is the most common smart TV brand in UK homes, and the question we get most is “which app?”

Which apps can you use?

Tizen supports only apps from Samsung’s own store. For IPTV the dependable choice is IBO Player. Some other players come and go from the store; avoid any that ask for payment before showing you a trial.

How do you set it up?

  1. Press Home, open Apps and search for IBO Player. Install it.
  2. Open it and note the MAC address and device key.
  3. On a phone or computer, open the IBO Player website, choose Manage playlist, enter the MAC and key, and add the M3U link or Xtream Codes details from your welcome message.
  4. Back on the TV, close and reopen the app.

When should you use a stick instead?

If the TV is older than about 2018, if the app is slow to change channel, or if you want recording and catch-up. A Fire TV Stick plugged into a free HDMI port runs TiviMate, and your Samsung remote can often control it through HDMI-CEC.

Readers also ask

Does IPTV Smarters Pro run on Samsung TVs?
Not the Android version. Availability of Smarters-branded apps in Samsung's store changes; IBO Player is the most dependable option on current models.
How do I find the app store on my Samsung TV?
Press the Home button, go to Apps, then use the magnifying glass at the top.
Why does my Samsung TV app freeze with a large playlist?
TV processors have less memory than streaming sticks. Ask your provider for a playlist with only the groups you use, or use a Fire TV Stick in the HDMI socket.
