MAG boxes, made by Infomir, are the set-top boxes many IPTV users started with. They remain popular with people who want a box that just works with a normal remote.

How do you set it up?

  1. Send your provider the box’s MAC address (on the label underneath, starting 00:1A:79). For our trial, send it with your request.
  2. Connect the box to the router with a network cable and to the TV with HDMI.
  3. Press Setup on the remote, then System settings → Servers → Portals.
  4. Enter a name and the portal URL from your welcome message in Portal 1.
  5. Save and choose Reboot portal.

Which problems come up most?

Problem Fix
Stuck on “Loading portal” Check the network cable; reboot the router
“Portal not found” Retype the URL including http:// and the trailing /c/ if given
Channels but no guide Wait ten minutes after the first start; the guide loads in the background
Wrong time in the guide Settings → System settings → Time zone: London

Readers also ask

Where is the MAC address on a MAG box?
On the sticker underneath the box, and in Settings → System information. It starts with 00:1A:79.
What does 'portal not found' mean?
The portal URL is wrong, the MAC address is not registered with the provider, or the box has no internet. Check each in that order.
Which MAG box should I buy?
Newer models such as the MAG 520 and 540 handle HD and 4K better than the older 322 and 324. All of them work on the same portal set-up.
